CFFA Certified Vs. Uncertified Vinyl Pool Liners

CFFA Certified Vs. Uncertified Vinyl Pool Liners

Posted by Jim Coxworth on 7th Apr 2025

Vinyl liners differ I quality and performance before CFFA certification the vinyl liner pool industry had no set of standards or certifications to determine the quality of vinyl liner manufactures. Many manufactures boast virgin vinyl, North American vinyl without any meaningful qualifications. Other vinyl, sourced from overseas was loaded with fillers or recycled vinyl that was of pool quality. Pool owners could never be sure about the quality of the vinyl they were purchasing. Many paid the price with liners that prematurely aged faded or became brittle well before they should have.

Enter the CFFA-P-101 Certification. CFFA-P-101 liners have undergone and passed comprehensive testing measuring various performance standards regarding the vinyl they are made with. There are 16 tests performed to insure a vinyl film meets the CFFA-P-101 standard:

  • Wrinkle Resistance: Tests the weight of the vinyl to determine if the material has excess amounts of filler that may lead to premature wrinkling.
  • Material Strength: Tensile tests evaluate strength pliability and stretch. Tear resistance is also tested to determine the vinyl’s overall durability in case of damage.
  • Temperature Resistance: Tests determine the vinyl’s stability when exposed to extreme temperatures. Dimensional stability analyzes how stable the material is during hot summer weather and extremely cold temperatures to determine the vinyl’s ability to resist cracking.
  • UV Performance: UV ageing tests the vinyl’s resistance to fading, discoloration & loss of physical properties when exposed to sunlight. This test determines if the vinyl has the correct formulation and long-term durability for outdoor use.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: This test simulates the normal wear and tear a liner may experience from cleaning, kids, pets and other factors, to see how well it can resist abrasion.
  • Mildew & Stain: This tests the vinyl resistance to fungal growth and bacterial staining. Vinyl liners made without microbial agents are vulnerable mildew and staining.

Pool owners can now rely on CFFA-P-101 certification to insure that a pool liner meets standards for quality and durability. They will have the peace of mind knowing their new liner will look great and perform well over many seasons from blazing summers to subzero winters. CFFA-P-101 says it all. Look for liners with this certification.
